An NVQ (National Vocational Qualification) is a qualification that assesses someone’s competence (that is the skills, knowledge and understanding they have) principally in a work situation. NVQs are based on the national occupational standards that describe the level and breadth of performance that is expected of anyone working in the industry, or sector that these NVQs cover.
These NVQs are based on the national occupational standards developed by the Management Standards Centre (MSC). They are the government-approved standards setting body for Management.
There are no entry requirements for these qualifications other than a candidate must be doing the job at the level stipulated, these are work based qualifications and they are therefore not available to those who are not performing these work roles.
This qualification is for those first line managers who have responsibility for the control of activities and the work output of a team. It can be a very useful development tool particularly for those who have recently been promoted into their first management role and helps to develop the person whilst teaching them the fundamentals of management.
